About us.
We started this company because solar should be smart, simple, and truly sustainable.
Who we are.
I’m Luke, a product engineer with a background in environmental science and greenhouse gas accounting. I started this company by designing and installing solar systems for family and friends, and it has grown largely through word of mouth and referrals.
That early trust still shapes how we work today. Every system is designed with care, technical rigour, and a long-term view to reduce bills, improve resilience, and cut emissions without unnecessary cost or complexity.
Our mission is to empower households across Aotearoa New Zealand to switch to solar with ease, making environmentally positive, cost-saving choices simple and accessible.
Our difference.
Engineered, not improvised
Every home deserves a tailored system. We take an engineering-led approach to system design, curating high-quality, proven components that suit your home, budget, and future plans.
Simple, start to finish
A solar system has real technical complexity, but we make it feel simple. From first consult to final install, we walk you through it all with clarity and care.
Sustainability, backed by evidence
We go beyond the typical ‘green’ claims. We quantify upfront emissions and reduction potential using research relevant to Aotearoa New Zealand, helping you make decisions that are good for your finances and the planet.
Our philosophy.
True Solar exists to support a smarter, more balanced energy future.
We believe electrification, done thoughtfully, is one of the most powerful ways households can reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and protect health. But more energy isn’t always better, efficiency and sufficiency matter. Every system we design is sized and specified to meet real needs, avoiding oversizing or unnecessary consumption.
We also consider the full story: the upfront carbon of materials, the longevity of components, and the real-world impact over decades. Our goal isn’t just cleaner energy, it’s smarter, evidence-based choices that benefit your home, your wallet, and Aotearoa New Zealand’s future.
The coloured stripes you see above — known as “warming stripes” — show the Earth’s rising temperature over the past century. The warming trend is unmistakable, but each household has the power to act. Thoughtful choices in energy use, efficiency, and solar add up. Reference: Hawkins, E. (2023).
